Calexico corrupt? Let's prove it

Since I have been in the Valley, I have heard people say how crooked Calexico politics are. You hear that in most cities, but Calexico definitely has that reputation.

Is it earned? I'm not sure, although I understand the 1980s were pretty rough and tumble. We have heard of recent favors being done for city officials but can't seem to get our hands on any documents that prove it, or even on-the-record comments.

So, Calexico watchers, if you have information, tips, whatever, send me an e-mail at bjennings@ivpressonline.com or call me at 337-3425. We want to get to the bottom of any corruption if it does indeed exist. That is what newspapers do. If you have anything that could help us, send it our way.

As much as I would love to give some kind of proof, I can't.

That is indeed what newspapers do and I want to thank you for trying to get to the bottom of these allegations, Jbrad. It ain't easy fighting city hall, so I think we all appreciate your efforts

Because you don't have any, or you can't because you are afraid of repercussions?

I ain't afraid of NO MAN. I don't have any information. I think Renison is a sleazeball, Durazo was my teacher in highschool I didn't care much for style of teaching and don't care for her politics. Don't even get me started on the guy from Becerril, I think he's a complete piece of crap. I'm sure there's more on city council but those are the ones I've personally dealt with.

Thanks, Rigo. It is especially hard to fight city hall when we can find no paper trail and everyone clams up. Even Watergate relied on sources giving reporters information. The other possibility is there is no wrongdoing and it is simply rumor. We are trying to find out.

I've heard whispers here and there. Calexico is a small town, people talk and sometimes you hear things. I would be afraid of reprecussions. If I were Me (ME) I would be afraid of them too. Why would did you get kicked out of your former place of business? For violating a city code? How many people in Calexico rent studio apartments that violate city code, yet nothing is done?
By the way JBrad, whatever happenned to the Calexico Building permit lady who got arrested? The one who was giving permits to "friends" and "family."

I'm not familiar with that case. Rich Brown is, and we'll see if we can find out where she is in the process (jail, probation).

I wonder what happenned to the people she helped? Shouldn't they be prosecuted? I wonder who they are?
That's the type of thing that you hear about in Calexico all the time.

any luck?

These things don't happen over night. And I haven't really gotten any e-mails from anyone with hard info on the corruption I hear so much about. I guess we'll see.
Also, I tried to post a blog about the debate last night, but it won't work. Sorry. I'll be gone until next week, so I'll try again then.

Oops ... there it is!

I tried posting a comment on the debate. But it wouldn't let me.

I like that all of the candidates said no to tax increases. McCain and Thompson pledged to the American People (thats me (soulman)) that they would not raise taxes. Thompson said he never met a tax he liked. That was reassuring.

We need tax reform!!! Reform the tax code.

Something wring with that post, so I deleted it. Trying to re-post it now.

Fixed, so post away on those comments. Soul, I also added a little tax section just for you.
