Phone service is being restored today after an unspecified technical failure at AT&T's central office in El Centro caused a massive outage that took more than two hours to repair.
Cellular phone service was also impacted by the 5:30 a.m. outage because cell site facilities are dependent on a fiber-based infrastructure, said Brian Brokowski, a media relations spokesman for AT&T. The cause, which Brokowski said is being investigated, occured at the central office and the outage itself was contained in the Imperial Valley.
Brokowski said he did not know how many customers were affect by the phone service disruption.Regular phone service was restored by 9:30 a.m. Wireless and internet service was restored by 7 a.m.

My phone service was out until early evening, and my internet was down until Thursday morning.
