NILAND --- Fire authorities suspect foul play was involved in Wednesday night's blaze that tore through a strip mall and gutted four unoccupied office spaces here, Calipatria Fire Chief Chris Hall said today.
Fire investigators are checking unspecified lead connected to the 7 p.m. fire that caused an unknown amount in damages, Hall said. A post office and a restaurant were spared at the Main Street location but may have to relocated elsewhere in the rural city because of how the buildings were constructed in close proximity to the strip mall, Hall said.
The Calipatria Fire Department was among several fire agencies that were called out to fight the flames, Hall said.
