The Imperial County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the idea of looking into creating a channel between the Salton Sea and the Sea of Cortez in Mexico.
The Salton Sea Authority will decide Dec. 17 whether to join in a memorandum of understanding with a private company to discuss the possibility of the plan, said Deputy County Executive Officer Andy Horne. The group wanted approval from its members, which includes Imperial County.
A majority of board members expressed support for the plan and the public-private partnership.
"After nine year [of looking at this], this is the only thing I see to solve the problem," said Supervisor Gary Wyatt.
The board also denied action on placing another "In God We Trust" plaque in the board chambers and directed staff to look into a $5 million grant application that would help create a green retrofit and workforce training program, though some of the board members expressed hesitance about the short time line for completion of grant paperwork.

yes, build the channel. it will not only create jobs for us here (in the construction of the channel) and continue to provide jobs (shrimping, fishing, recreation, etc.) Imagine all the tourism. $$$ Oh, and btw, it would also slightly lower our high temperatures, not by much, but I'll take what I can get. In regards to the illegals, alot of them will drown from exhaustion. I say we go for it, exciting. Realize we would have a beach here that's not polluted! Surf, swim, fish, boat, ski, party, etc., people with children won't have to drive 150 miles to take their whining brats to the beach. You'll save $$$.
