Legislators won't get any raises when the state is running a deficit, but that's the only proposition out of the six on Tuesday's special election ballot that voters approved.
Imperial County voters followed the state's trend, approving Proposition 1F by an overwhelming 73.9 percent to 26.1 percent, while state voters approved it by 75.3 percent to 24.7 percent. All the other propositions were rejected, state-wide, by at least 60 percent of the voters.
Imperial County's turnout was low, with only 15.63 percent of registered voters turning in ballots. Dolores Provencio, the Imperial County Clerk, said that once the remaining provisional ballots are counted, that number may increase to 20 percent. The latest presidential election saw a 68 percent turnout in Imperial County.
